How TeenHireHive works
Two sides, one goal: help Ottawa teens find real experience, and help the people around them find a hand. Pick the side that’s you.
Fill in the sign up form
It’s on the Join the hive page and takes about five minutes. You get an email right away with your card number, and so does your parent or guardian if you’re under 18.
Be specific about what you can do
“Grade 8 science tutor” or “RCM grade 6 piano” tells people far more than “good with kids.” Mention certifications like CPR, past jobs or volunteering, and when you’re free.
We check it and put your card up
A real person reads every sign up, usually within two days. If you’re under 18, your parent or guardian also gets an email with a link to confirm. Then your card goes on Meet the teens with your initials, skills and availability, and never your name, email or phone.
Get matched
Clients can message you from your card, and you can say you’re interested in tasks on the opportunities page. If you ticked the box for task emails, we’ll also let you know when a nearby task fits your skills. Messages come to you through us, with your parent copied. Need volunteer hours? The Volunteer in Ottawa page lists places that take teens.
Do great work, build your score
After each job the client rates you, and your card shows how many jobs you’ve finished and your average rating.
Post your task
Use the form on Post a task. Say what you need, where (or if it can be done online), when, and what you’ll pay or whether it’s volunteer.
We read it
Every task is read by a person before it goes up, usually within two days. You get an email when it’s listed.
Meet good fits
Browse the cards on Meet the teens and message a teen straight from their card, or wait for teens to say they’re interested in your task.
Sort out the details together
Messages go through our relay with the teen’s parent copied, so no one has to share an email address. You and the family agree on the details and pay directly. TeenHireHive doesn’t handle payments.
Leave a rating
When the job is done we email you a short rating form. Your rating builds the teen’s hiring score.
Your teen signs up
They fill in a short form with their skills and availability, and give your email as their parent or guardian.
You get a copy
You get an email with a link to confirm your teen’s card. Nothing goes public until you click it. After that you get the welcome email and a copy of every message from a client.
Nothing private is shown
The public card shows initials, age range, neighbourhood, skills and availability. Never a name, photo, email, phone or school.
You stay in the loop
You always know who your teen is talking to and what the job is. Your teen, or you, can change or remove the card at any time, and each change is confirmed by a link sent to your email.
Questions people ask
Who can join as a teen?
Teens aged 13 to 18 in the Ottawa area. If you’re under 18, a parent or guardian confirms by email before your card goes up.
Can tasks be done online?
Yes. Clients can post remote tasks like tutoring over video or design work, and the task card says so.
Do volunteer tasks count toward the 40 hours?
Often, but your school decides. Check with your guidance office before you start, and bring your school’s form to get signed.
Does TeenHireHive take a cut of the pay?
No. Payments aren’t handled on the site; clients and families agree on pay directly.
Do you run background checks?
No. A person reads every teen card and every task, and turns down anything unsafe or unfair, but we don’t do police or background checks. That’s why a parent is copied on every match, and why we suggest meeting first. More on our Safety & Trust page.
